Hill Elementary School
Students explored how litter affects our waterways, and studied soil composition and its effects of erosion. Stay tuned because on April 2nd the 100 plus fourth graders will be headed to Bull Creek District Park for a service-learning project. Projects include: spreading mulch on dry eroded ground to provide nutrients for grass growth and for erosion control; fortifying the trails by moving small rocks to border the erosion control berms; a cleanup of the park; and a Scavenger Hunt of the area, which presents an opportunity to tour the grounds and for students to better understand the impact of their project on their local watershed.

Students build mini watershed models and observe the flow of water.

Dawson Elementary School

There is no doubt that Dawson students are committed to protecting their local Bouldin Creek.  For three years Dawson fourth graders have been planting natives along the banks of Bouldin Creek to help prevent erosion. This year third graders joined the environmental commitment. They learned about watersheds and how native plants filter pollutants. After learning about watersheds and native plants they set out to revitalize an existing butterfly garden.  Check out our planting day…

Cunningham Elementary School

Cunningham students are tackling recycling at their school with a recycling campaign. They began their project by learning about curbside recycling and then how common materials are processed into new products. Afterwards they made friends with Red Wiggler Worms to learn about vermi-composting and how food scraps can be recycled.
