  • Partnership between City of Austin Code Compliance and KAB Adopt-a-Creek group to clean up an illegal dumpsite along Shoal Creek where buried flood debris and fallen limbs were removed, transforming the area into a safe place to explore.
  • A significant 2.67 tons were removed in the St. John neighborhood alone.
  • Volunteers from Corpus Christi United Methodist Church drove 240 miles to participate in the event. 
  • A bath tub and many tires were recovered by a group cleaning Boggy Creek.
  • Ligustrum was cut, mulch piles moved, and 200 sedges and grasses planted at Blunn Creek Preserve.

 

Volunteer Party Highlights

• Dead Music Capital Band entertained volunteers with a marching band performance!
• Volunteers treated to lunch from H-E-B and sweet treats from Cloud 9 Cotton Candy and Jim Jim's Water Ice!
• $2,975-worth of door prizes donated: REI Tents, Four Seasons, Lone Star Riverboat, Vulcan Video, Paramount and Stateside Theatres, Omni Hotel, Carmelo's Restaurant, Texas Rowing Center, The Soup Peddler, Chuy's, Pluckers, and Austin Rowing Club.
• Environmental Fair with hands-on environmental education activities and exhibits by local nonprofits, businesses and city agencies, including: Austin Watershed Protection Department, Capital Area Master Naturalist, REI, and Sustainable Food Center.
• Kids and adults loved the climbing wall and face painting.
• Volunteers dressed up in accessories and snapped photos at the Car2Go photo booth.
• Most Unique Object contest won by Wendy Hiles who found a laundry mat coin feeder!
• Focus on city bag ordinance with bags collected for redistribution to families in need, 300 reusable bags distributed at the party, and reusable bags upcycled from old event banners.
• Early registrants received free t-shirts.
