WHAT IS CLEAN SWEEP?

Clean Sweep is KAB's annual citywide cleanup that takes place all over Austin.  The first 4,000 volunteers to register get a free event t-shirt and it’s followed by an awesome Volunteer Party and Environmental Fair at Waterloo Park which includes: free lunch, live music, kid’s environmental activities, recycled art, door prizes and more!

Saturday, April 10, 2010 

  • Cleanup: 9:00AM – 11:00AM
  • Volunteer Party: 11:30AM – 1:30PM
2010 Results
  • 4,396 pre-registered volunteers
  • 129 cleanup locations throughout Austin
  • 30 TONS of trash collected
  • Cleanups took place in 30 zip codes! Click here to see where cleanups were around town
  • Hundreds of unique objects including: an American Flag, cash, remote control robot, crab leg, toilet, water bed mattress, air horn, inflatable raft, old dolls, restaurant sign, and a realistic looking plastic snake.

Volunteer Party Highlights

  • Live Music by La Tampiquena and fun with face painting and a rock climbing wall
  • Over $1300 worth of Door Prizes awarded from: Pure Austin, Horseshoe Bay Resort, Yoga Yoga, Uchi, Texas Rowing Center, Capital Cruises, and Castle Hill Fitness.
  • Unique Object Contest winners awarded with 2 tickets to a "Long Center Presents" show and 4 Free Boarding Passes on the Lone Star Riverboat
  • Environmental Fair with 15 hands-on, kids environmental education activities
  • Exhibits by local nonprofits, businesses and agencies including: Austin Energy's Cody the Solar Car, Greenstar Educational Trailer, REI Peak Maze, Watershed Protection Department, Capital Area Master Naturalist, and Sustainable Food Center
  • Thank you to the many Dignitaries in attendance: State Representative Dawnna Dukes, State Representative Donna Howard, Travis County Commissioner Karen Huber, Travis County Commissioner Ron Davis (Chief of Staff Deon Whillite) and Mayor Pro Tem Mike Martinez
