WHAT IS CLEAN SWEEP?

Clean Sweep is KAB's annual citywide cleanup that takes place all over Austin.  The first 4,000 volunteers to register get a free event t-shirt and it’s followed by an awesome Volunteer Party and Environmental Fair at Waterloo Park which includes: free lunch, live music, kid’s environmental activities, recycled art, door prizes and more!

2011 RESULTS

• 5,285 Pre-registered volunteers
• 136 Cleanup locations all around Austin. We would like to thank Honest Tea and Kind Snacks for providing treats at all cleanup locations!
• 25+ tons of trash removed from public spaces
• Cleanups took place in 31 zip codes! Click here to see were around town.
• 45,149 cigarette butts collected
• Hundreds of Unique Objects were found including: part of a tricycle, a large black and yellow sign, a skunk figurine, a love letter, a bright green whoopee cushion, a kazoo, a disco ball, a credit card, a doll leg, a working cell phone, a pair of shoes and a honey comb.

VOLUNTEER PARTY HIGHLIGHTS

• Live Music by Miranda Dodson and fun with a climbing wall and face painting
• Free lunch with H-E-B providing the food and Waste Management manning the grills! Sunflower Farmer's Market provided fruit for volunteers.
• Over $700 worth of door prizes distributed to recognize volunteers and celebrate their accomplishments. With prizes from: Holiday Inn Town Lake, Pure Austin, Amy's Ice Cream, the Paramount Theatre, Texas Rowing Center, Yoga Yoga, Lone Star Riverboat and Capital Cruises
• Environmental Fair with hands-on, kids environmental education activities
• Exhibits by local nonprofits, businesses and city agencies including: Organics by Gosh Composting Demo, and REI Leave No Trace Maze.
• Dignitaries in attendance: Travis County Commissioner Ron Davis, a representative for Travis County Commissioner Karen Huber (Lori Duarte), Mayor Lee Leffingwell, Mayor Pro-Tem Mike Martinez, City Council Member Sheryl Cole, and City Council Member Chris Riley.
• Unique Object Contest with prizes from Carmelo's Ristorante Italiano, and Maudie's Tex-Mex!
