Groundwater to the Gulf 2009 Highlights

Teachers participating in the 2009 Groundwater to the Gulf Teacher Institute spent 3-days following the path of water in Central Texas from its origins to its final destination in the Gulf of Mexico. Topics included: hydrology, groundwater, urban watersheds, water quality, water protection, and water conservation. 

Day 1: Karst Tour - rock identification and a mini-caving trip.

Day 1 Continued: Exploring green gardening practices, the effects of development on a river and building model rainwater collection systems.

Day 2: Studying geology formations as wells as aquatic insect study and water quality assessment at McKiinney Falls

Day 2 Continued: A tour of the new Wilkerson Center for Colorado River Education at Redbud followed by freshwater mussel identification.

Day 3: Behind the scenes tour of Splash! Exhibit at Barton Springs along with spotting Barton Springs salamanders at Eliza Springs, and water quality testing at Barton Creek.
