This spring a major focus at Green Teens' sites was native plant and vegetable gardening including learning about composting, beneficial bugs, and organic gardening practices along with local fieldtrips that reinforced these topics.

Kealing and Bedichek Fall 2008

Through KAB's weekly after-school activities students at Bedichek and Kealing Middle School studied the impact of litter on water quality and habitats. Aware of the importance of keeping their watershed and creek clean they set out to their local creek to identify sources of pollution and what could be done to reduce the trash entering the creek. Leading by example students cleaned up their local creek. What started out as a commitment to making a difference turned out to be an outdoor adventure of finding interesting "trashy" treasures.

At the end of the semester students presented their findings and shared their experiences with family and friends at a WOW - a parent night produced by the students where they teach back to the community.

Green Teens at Bedichek and Kealing Middle Schools is led in partnership with Citizen Schools.
