Mighty Fine Makes a Big Impact What does 4 volunteer projects, 55 volunteers, 178.50 service hours, and $1,200 in-kind donations look like? Fulmore Middle School On Wednesday, 9/21 Mighty Fine (burgers, fries, shakes) volunteers overhauled the Fulmore Middle School grounds. With 72 service hours already logged, the campus trees all mulched to help them survive the drought, and the courtyard weed free, mulched, and planted the team decided to return to Fulmore to complete the transformation! On Tuesday, 9/27 volunteers returned to campus to complete the habitat installation. Ground was leveled, crushed granite pathways set, and compost added to prep the area for KAB’s Green Teens students to plant and use as an outdoor learning space the rest of the year. ![]() 12 cubic yards of soil and 12 cubic yards of mulch donated from Organics by Gosh makes for a LOT of wheel Barrow trips. ![]() What a transformation! ![]() Green Teens from Travis High School join the workday to remove invasive Nandina from the courtyard at Fulmore. Martin Middle School Garden workdays aren’t always what you think they are going to be as Mighty Fine volunteers found out on Saturday, September 24th (and Tuesday, 9/27) when they set out to remove an existing raised bed from Martin Middle School. The 4 foot by 40 foot raised bed was removed to make way for a large National Wildlife Federation School Yard Habitat that will be installed later this fall. Volunteers also weeded and amended 6 raised beds that are ready for fall veggie planting, restored a native plant garden outfitted with new natives, built a 3-bin compost system, and mulched trees in front of the school. Whew that was a busy two workdays! One day its there the next day its not - check out the 4ft x 40ft raised bed that was removed. Thank you to the many partners who made the projects possible… Mighty Fine for coordination, volunteers, and in-kind donations! Organics by Gosh, Home Depot, and the Great Outdoors generous donations to make these projects possible! Austin Resource Recovery for the bulk pickup; we couldn’t have removed the large raised bed from Martin without you. Green Teens is an after-school environmental education program of Keep Austin Beautiful. Green Teens has partnered with Martin Middle School for four years to promote environmental stewardship and is in its first year partnership with Fulmore Middle School.
