Green Teens at Bedichek Middle School
Keep Austin Beautiful has partnered with Citizen Schools to lead Green Teens apprenticeships at Bedichek Middle School.

Spring 2009

Students put their gardening know how to work and reap the harvest.

Bedichek Fall 2008

Through KAB's weekly after-school activities students at Bedichek Middle School studied the impact of litter on water quality and habitats. Aware of the importance of keeping their watershed and creek clean they set out to their local creek to identify sources of pollution and what could be done to reduce the trash entering the creek. Leading by example students cleaned up their local creek. What started out as a commitment to making a difference turned out to be an outdoor adventure of finding interesting "trashy" treasures.

At the end of the semester students presented their findings and shared their experiences with family and friends at a WOW - a parent night produced by the students where they teach back to the community.

Green Teens identify aquatic bugs to determine how clean their water sample is.

Students identified water entering the creek from a stormdrain and then set out to cleanup the creek.

Bedichek Spring 2007

During the spring semester at Bedichek Middle School Green Teens designed and installed a garden. In the process they learned about native plants, the uses of plants, ecosystems, and mapping, while working as a team and gaining leadership skills.

Green Teens adopted a plant and determined the best location to plant it.

Beautify Bedichek
Green Teens and their families along with other Citizen Schools youth and community members teamed up on Saturday, April 14th to install 6 raised beds at Bedichek Middle School. Check out the hard work completed to beautify the school.

Building garden beds is no easy task... from hauling rocks and 6 yards of soil and mulch to building the raised beds.

Native plants find a home in the new beds.
