KAB Vol Op: Clean Lady Bird Lake w/ an Aloha Attitude
Thu, 05/06/2010 - 10:48 — brian
06/20/2010 - 09:00 06/20/2010 - 11:00 Etc/GMT-6 Clean Lady Bird Lake Sunday - June 20, 2010 What better way to celebrate Father’s Day and International Surfing Day (ISD) then to spend quality time with the Big Kahuna in your life and cleanup Lady Bird Lake? ISD is a global event that celebrates the aloha-surfer-attitude and the need to protect our oceans and waterways. With recent coverage of the swirling plastic island in the Atlantic and the increasing trend of Austinites stand up paddleboarding on Lady Bird Lake, cleaning the lake (Colorado River) is the perfect way to celebrate ISD. Join hundreds of volunteers as they have a rewarding morning searching high and low for every last bit of trash and getting to know other lake enthusiasts. Each cleanup will end with a prize for the most unusual object found during the cleanup, and all volunteers will be invited to join ISD events later in the day including an on-the-water race, party with live music by 3 Balls of Fire, & "Step Into Liquid" shown on an outside movie screen under the stars! Volunteers MUST pre-register for this event, use the registration link below & will have FREE entry into the party. (General Public admission to the party is $5 for kids & $10 for adults.)
