Patch Pals Activity Kits Available for Checkout!


Scout troop leaders, after-school instructors and educators teaching youth about the environment, bugs, plants, and recycling is easy with KAB's Patch Pals Activity Kits that are available for checkout. LITTER BE GONE
Realize the impact of litter on our waterways and environment. Make cultural interpretations by charting the kinds of litter found on a cleanup.

LANDFILL LOGIC
Compare and contrast characteristics of waste, what’s in our trash, and how trash is processed in a landfill.

RECYCLE MATTERS
Take a journey through the recycling process from what can be recycled, to sorting, to packing, to processing.

COMPOST CRITTERS
Explore the science of composting and observe worms and other microbes.

WATERSHEDS
Find the watershed you live in, identify pollutants that affect it, and how you can take action to protect it.

WHAT’S IN DA WATER
Discover how plants and animals can be used to determine the “health” of a waterway along with other testing parameters.

UNDERGROUND WITH AQUIFERS
Build model aquifers to learn about their structure and identify flow rates in different kinds of aquifers.

BENEFICIAL BUGS
Discuss the role of beneficial bugs; collect, observe, and identify insects and their characteristics; and identify the various stages of an insect’s lifecycle.

TREEMENDOUS EXPERIENCES
Identify trees. Discuss differences between deciduous and evergreen trees; identify parts of a winter twig and determine the age of trees. 

THE DIRT ON SOIL
Explore the science of soil, and soil erosion and compaction; and soil observation.

HERBALICIOUS
Sensory investigation of herbs. Make herbal tea bags and a potted herb.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE
Activities to compliment a nature hike and raise awareness of the outdoors including birding and wildflower identification.
 

Results

KAB Activity Kits have a track record of success. During the 2008-2009 school-year (Aug-July) 50 groups utilized the kits to educate over 13,000 youth and adults doubling our previous years' efforts where 25 groups used the kits to educate 5,400+ citizens.
