Annual Awards Luncheon 2011KAB AWARDS LUNCHEON
The KAB Awards Luncheon honors the efforts of businesses, individuals, and community groups, both large and small, that serve as inspirations for our community towards greater environmental stewardship. The 26th Annual KAB Awards Luncheon took take place on Thursday, October 27th. Winners in eight categories will be announced and recognized. Discover who greened their school, used innovative low impact packaging, set the standard for "green" practices in the workplace, took action to remove invasive plants, and fostering the next generation of environmental leaders.
2011 HIGHLIGHTSOn October 27th, 2011 the foyer of the Sheraton Austin filled with a who’s who of environmental leaders, business heads committed to philanthropy, and elected officials chatting it up about how to make Austin greener. At 11:30 everyone took their seats as Barry Dawson, KAB Board President welcomed attendees and introduced the events keynote speaker. This year’s keynote speaker, State Representative Mark Strauma who had freshly returned from China discussed the impacts of environmental issues locally and abroad. Jim Spencer, chief weathercaster emceed the event to announce the inspiration for the day – the 2011 KAB Award Winners.
The awardees are a testament to how hard people are working every day to make sure Austin continues to be the beautiful and amazing place we love to live. The awards unveiled who is greening their school –Bowie High School; removing invasive species-Jerry Levenson; setting the standard for environmental practices in the workplace –Four Season; fostering the next generation of environmental leaders –Austin Resource Recovery; and preserving Austin’s landmarks –The Trail Foundation and the Best of the Best winner Richard Craig with the Pease Park Conservancy.
