KAB provides resources and education to inspire individuals &
the Austin community toward greater environmental stewardship

The Cultivating Leaders Field Trip Series was started in 2011 to provide KAB’s volunteers in-the-field information on topics they are passionate about.  For example, instead of viewing a powerpoint with recycling statistics scrolling down the page, volunteers don hard hats to tour a Material Recovery Facility and watch thousands of plastic bottles get compressed into a bale weighing 600-2,000 pounds.

2011 TOURS

January 24 - BFI/Allied Waste’s Material Recovery Facility

Volunteers discovered just how loud recycling can be as they toured a Material Recovery Facility and were astounded by the amount of material processed each day.  Click here to read a blog one of the guests wrote.

February 15 - Organics by Gosh

“Good compost is like fine wine” (the slower and longer the aging process the better) was one of the many memorable quotes from the tour guide as volunteers walked between mounds of mulch and compost.  Click here to see photos.
