TX Recycles DayNovember 18th  On Tuesday, November 18th, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., TxDOT will hold a special recycling event at Camp Hubbard and the Riverside Campus.  In celebration of Texas Recycles Day, TxDOT, Goodwill Industries, and Keep Texas Beautiful have again teamed up to host TxDOT's 5th annual Reuse Roundup, a statewide event to raise employee and public awareness about the benefits of reuse, recycling and conservation. We want to make donating as convenient as possible by bringing the collection center to you. Everyone is encouraged to participate by cleaning out your closets, garages, sheds and storage units and bring your clean goods for reuse. Goodwill will accept personal items such as electronics, small appliances, clothes, toys, sports equipment, books, tapes and CDs.  In addition, Goodwill is now accepting computers and accessories such as keyboards, mice, and CDs. IMPORTANT: No state owned or surplus property can be donated, only personal property from home can be donated. Bringing Goodwill to TxDOT offices helps reduce your driving destinations, traffic, travel time and gas usage.  In addition, your donations will reduce materials sent to the landfill and provide training and employment for Texans with disabilities or other disadvantaging conditions. By donating at the Reuse Roundup, you will. . . 1) Help stress the importance of reuse and recycling at home and work.2) Feel good about helping those in need.3) Better organize your homes, and4) Save money, as the attendant will be happy to issue a receipt for your 2008 tax purposes. Last year, 20 TxDOT offices participated and collected a total of 44,681 pounds of clean reusable goods last year. Check out these results and photos from the 2007 Reuse Roundup event at http://crossroads/org/gsd/Recycling/reuseresults3.htm. Volunteers are needed - Signing up for 30 minutes or whatever amount of time you can give would be greatly appreciated. Call Sam Reyes at 302-2424 or Brandi Rountree at 302-2423 to sign up on the volunteer list!
