Blair Woods Restoration03/28/2009 The Together Green Grant has picked Blair Woods for a two weekend restoration project.  The second series of work will finish up the trail lining and mulching, plant natives to take the place of removed non-natives and stabilize the pond.  UT Student Engineering Council E-waste Drive 03/28/09 For the Austinites out there, recycling electronic waste just got a little easier! The Student Engineering Council, at the University of Texas at Austin, is throwing an E-waste Drive.  Come donate any unwanted or old electronics to the drive and help prevent the accumulation of e-waste in landfills!  Tree of the Year 2009 Nominations06/30/2009 It’s time to send in your pick for “Tree of the Year 2009.” Nominations are due June 30th.  Each year, one large and one small tree within the Austin city limits will be recognized. Look for trees that are native, healthy and beautiful. A nomination form may be found at www.cityofaustin.org/treeoftheyear. Keep Austin Beautiful and the City of Austin Watershed Protection and Development Review are partnering with Becker Green Classroom to spruce up the gardens at the Green Classroom. North Loop Neighborhood Green04/18/2009 Bruning Green is a neighbor-maintained green space that was established in 2001 and has been developed into a beautiful little public space with a butterfly bed, path, stone seating walls, and bench. Operation Clean Creek 04/18/2009 (rain date 4/25/2009)Little Walnut Creek, the portion that runs immediately next/North of Sunchase Condominiums on North Plaza, is a beautiful little green space that is dear to the hearts of Sunchase residents - it's also the home of various turtles, birds, raccoons, possum and a variety of other wildlife. The Green Apple Festival 04/17/2009 – 04/19/2009 This year Austin has an opportunity to get huge amounts of work done on behalf of Austin and the environment.  The Green Apple Festival, the nation's largest Earth Day Celebration will be in 10 cities this year, including Austin the weekend before Earth Day. Green Apple Festival is produced in partnership with Earth Day Network, the non‐profit organization started by the original founders of Earth Day. Windsor Park Community Garden04/18/2009, 04/19/2009 This coming Earth Day weekend, Windsor Park Community Garden will be working on building ferro-cement raised beds for gardening and setting posts and building frames for a fence that will be filled in with recycled materials. Ecological Literacy Workday04/25/2009   Combining volunteer work with learning about local ecology, the Ecological Literacy Day at Hornsby Bend begins with several hours of outdoor work - ranging from trail maintenance to habitat restoration to work in the native plant nursery - and ends with at least an hour of learning about local ecology - birds, bugs, and more!
