Clean Lady Bird LakeJune 6, 2009 Love Lady Bird Lake but hate the styrofoam washed up along its shoreline? Join Keep Austin Beautiful and the Trail Foundation in an increased effort to put the finishing touches on this beautiful asset to our community. Volunteers will have a rewarding morning as they search high and low for every last bit of trash and get to know other lake enthusiasts. There are four starting locations for shoreline volunteers, and on-the-water volunteer will leave from the Texas Rowing Center, Zilker Boat Rentals, and volunteers with their own boats will launch from the boat ramp on the NW corner of the lake and I-35 (see registration link below for more details). Ecological Literacy Workday 06/27/09 Combining volunteer work with learning about local ecology, the Ecological Literacy Day at Hornsby Bend begins with several hours of outdoor work - ranging from trail maintenance to habitat restoration to work in the native plant nursery - and ends with at least an hour of learning about local ecology - birds, bugs, and more! Wear boots and work clothing, and be sure to bring your binoculars. Poop Patrol06/27/2009 Friends of Red Bud Isle are going to conduct another quick sweep of the park for wayward poops. The last Poop Patrol was a great success and much appreciated by park users. Please join volunteers for an hour on Saturday, June 27th before the real heat kicks in to keep the park healthy. RSVP with shirt size. Volunteers will meet at 9am at the kiosk. Bring your own poop scooper. Trash bags and (in an unrelated capacity) kolaches will be provided. This is a fido and kiddo friendly event.
