 Zilker Park Restoration8/01/09 EcoTexas is hosting upcoming workdays at the Zilker Preserve removing various invasive species, including Nandina, Japanese Privet, and Chinaberry among other species.  North Loop Neighborhood Green08/08/2009 Bruning Green is a neighbor-maintained green space that was established in 2001 and has been developed into a beautiful little public space with a butterfly bed, path, stone seating walls, and bench. Turkey Creek Workday08/24/09 Project Leaders Needed!  Do you have experience leading small groups in the outdoors? Then your help is needed bright and early on a Monday morning. What a way to start the week! You don't need any real technical expertise, just common sense and to be comfortable leading a group of 15 - 20. Some of the work is fairly light.Students will be working on the following tasks:

  • Build a 50 ft long rock berm out of small stones to be delivered to the site.  Just a stacked stone wall, no concrete involved here. 
  • Spread decomposed granite along a path that leads from the field to the trailhead and clean up, spread mulch at the Picnic area and move decomposed granite or gravel by the wheel barrow load.
  • Dig post holes (2-3) and mix small amounts of concrete to secure posts for additional trash T and mutt mitt stations.
  • Painting existing Trash T's at location.
  • Move and spread Mulch in Picnic area:  removal of light underbrush.

Ecological Literacy Workday Last Saturday of Each Month       Combining volunteer work with learning about local ecology, the Ecological Literacy Day at Hornsby Bend begins with several hours of outdoor work - ranging from trail maintenance to habitat restoration to work in the native plant nursery - and ends with at least an hour of learning about local ecology - birds, bugs, and more!
