REI Service Project at Lake Georgetown9/26/09REI Round Rock is partnering with the Austin Ridge Riders to celebrate National Public Lands Day with a service project at Lake Georgetown, our favorite local oasis! Last year's project helped to open a new 5 mile stretch to mountain bikers and now we're looking to finish the job! Zilker Preserve Restoration9/26/09EcoTexas is hosting upcoming workdays at the Zilker Preserve removing various invasive species, including Nandina, Japanese Privet, and Chinaberry among other species. Once the species are removed, the City of Austin will help with planting native species to restore Zilker to its natural state! North Loop Neighborhood Green 10/03/2009   Bruning Green is a neighbor-maintained green space that was established in 2001 and has been developed into a beautiful little public space with a butterfly bed, path, stone seating walls, and bench. Collect Wildflower Seeds to Share10/03/09 Keep Austin Beautiful works with dozens and dozens of groups around to town beautify parks, creeks, greenbelts, and schools.  KAB has tools to share (www.keepaustinbeautiful.org/toolshack) and volunteers to lend a helping hand to these projects, but one of the main things lacking are native plants.  Now there’s the chance to get some FREE seeds to share all over Austin. A site on the NE side of Pleasant Valley and Lyons is going to be developed and the owners have generously allowed access to the property to collect wildflower seeds.  Led by a Capital Area Master Naturalist, volunteers will be able to collect millions of Mexican hat and clasping coneflower seeds in just a couple of hours.   Come join other volunteers this Saturday for a fun morning of seed collecting! Date: Saturday, October 3rdTime: 9am-11amLocation: meet at the NE corner of Pleasant Valley & Lyons (East Austin – 78702)Parking:  parking is in the surrounding neighborhood, so please be courteous of neighbor’s drivewaysBring: work gloves, reusable bottle of water, and gardening scissors RSVP: jecawilson@yahoo.com

Zilker Preserve Workday10/17/09 EcoTexas is hosting upcoming workdays at the Zilker Preserve removing various invasive species, including Nandina, Japanese Privet, and Chinaberry among other species. Help refine KAB’s Educational ActivitiesOctober 19, 2009Volunteer from the comforts of your home while assisting KAB’s education programs! Something as simple as paint by numbers can be a BIG help for our KAB education programming. KAB is looking for a volunteer or two to paint 8 mini-watershed models (aprox size is 12x12). The models will be used to teach youth about the impact of pollutions on our watershed. All supplies provided. Estimated time is 1 hour per model. Supplies need to be picked up and dropped off at the KAB office.
