Robertson Hill Neighborhood Association (RHNA), in conjunction with Keep Austin Beautiful and the City of Austin departments of Neighborhood Housing and Community Development and Arts In Public Places, will hold a dedication ceremony and walking tour of No Vacancy: the Robertson Hill Juniper-Olive Art Mural Project, a series of 8’ x 4’ art murals installed in front of several vacant houses and lots located along the Juniper-Olive Historic District. No Vacancy: the Robertson Hill Juniper-Olive Art Mural Project is funded by a 2009 KAB Beautification Grant. www.KeepAustinBeautiful.org/NBG2009RobertsonHillNA Eight murals painted by local residents, children of residents, and professional artists are installed at six sites within the historic district, located on Juniper and Olive Streets between Branch and Navasota Streets. During the dedication, prizes donated by community members will be awarded to first place winner, the Kealing Middle School Art Club, second place winner, professional artist Diego Fishburn, and third place winner, 6-year old resident Izabella Zapata. RHNA consists of approximately 75 residential members, many who assisted with the mural project. Robertson Hill is a historic Austin neighborhood in transition from blight to revitalization, and is increasingly becoming a site for public art that reflects the unique cultural heritage of Central East Austin. Caraway Elementary Schoolyard Habitat Project 3/27/10 Caraway Elementary, near 183 and Oak Knoll (a little north of the Arboretum), is installing a new Outdoor Wildlife Lab, a butterfly-hummingbird garden. Volunteers are welcome and will be doing a little digging to even out the path and prep the soil at the base of raised beds, but most of the work will involve easier tasks -- moving soil into the raised beds, spreading decomposed granite in the pathways, planting perennials and shrubs, watering, adding mulch, and then sitting back to admire a job well done! The stonework is already installed – now just wait for nature to do her work!
