The Water Quality Protection Lands have several volunteer opportunities coming up in the next few weeks and they’re looking for some folks to help out! Caraway Elementary Schoolyard Habitat Project 3/27/10 Caraway Elementary, near 183 and Oak Knoll (a little north of the Arboretum), is installing a new Outdoor Wildlife Lab, a butterfly-hummingbird garden. Volunteers are welcome and will be doing a little digging to even out the path and prep the soil at the base of raised beds, but most of the work will involve easier tasks -- moving soil into the raised beds, spreading decomposed granite in the pathways, planting perennials and shrubs, watering, adding mulch, and then sitting back to admire a job well done! The stonework is already installed – now just wait for nature to do her work! Moving Mulch @ Balcones District Park4/3/10 The parks department is delivering mulch to Balcones. Downtown Austin Farmers’ Market – Zero Waste InitiativeEvery Saturday and Wednesday Like landfills? If that’s a big no, come be a part of a momentous zero-waste project at two fun-filled Austin Farmers’ Market (AFM) locations. Help assist customers with recycling, compost, and landfill material and help the market achieve its zero-waste goal! The New Backyard is looking for 25-30 volunteers to help with the final touches on the New Backyard at Bee Cave. Have a great time planting beautiful plants and get free lunch and free to the First Look Festival and other perks that only GREEN TEAM members will receive! In order to participate you MUST email your name, contact info, and volunteer hours to marketingintern@directevents.net It is preferred that each volunteer brings at least one or ALL of the following tools: small hand held trowel or garden shovel or a hand held cultivator.
