Habitat Garden Workday 6/15/2010   There’s a habitat garden at the Lamar Senior Activity Center that is getting some good watering thanks to the rain but can use some tlc. This garden was planted in April 2009 with the help of National Wildlife Federation Habitat Stewards and Austin Parks Foundation volunteers. Since that time the garden has filled in nicely and looks lush and lovely now. It just needs a little weeding and maintenance so the center has scheduled a work day to whip it into shape. Members of the Garden Club will be there to help out as well. Now we just need some volunteers to make it a party.   Date: Tuesday, June 15th  Time:  8:00am-10:30am Location: 2874 Shoal Crest Ave. 78705, phone- 474-5921 http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/sac.htm Notes: Bring a filled water bottle, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, gloves, weeding tools and wear closed-toe shoes.  Snacks and water will be provided on site. Mary Moore Searight Park Off-Leash Nature Trail Project7/3/10Austin Parks Foundation has provided a grant for ecological restoration in the north end of Mary Moore Searight Park.  This project will include tree installation, and seeding of native grasses and wildflowers in the open areas.  Many decaying ash junipers have already been removed and mulched by a forestry mower.  Volunteers will be needed to transplant seedlings of tree species from the adjacent forest that are not available from local nurseries.  A very exciting addition to the project will be the installation of a solar powered irrigation system to get the new trees established.  Date:  Saturday, July 3, 2010Time:  9am-12pmLocation: 907 Slaughter Ln., 78748. Enter the trail from 1st street, just south of Slaughter Lane, on the right side of the street, where the trees begin.  You can Google the location using 10000 South 1st Street, Austin, TX 78748.  It should show a spot on the Northeast side of Mary Moore Searight Park.Contact: Please RSVP to Claire Sorenson, csorenson1@austin.rr.com or on the Facebook site listed below http://sites.google.com/site/slaughtercreektrails/HomeBecome a member, sign up for events, even RSVP at our Facebook site: http://www.facebook.com/groups.php?ref=sb#/group.php?gid=176873979247
