The City of Austin is looking for Zero Waste Ambassadors to help at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility the first Saturday of every month. Volunteers will help unload vehicles on collection day. Then join volunteers for trail maintenance, invasive plant removal, revegetation, erosion control, and other land management projects on the third Saturday of each month. KAB Neighborhood Beautification Grants Keep Austin Beautiful is now accepting applications for 2012 Neighborhood Beautification Grants! Each year, KAB awards grants of $500 to $2500 for neighborhood and community groups to improve and beautify public spaces. Mary Moore Searight Park Off-Leash Nature Trail Project First Saturday of every month Austin Parks Foundation has provided a grant for ecological restoration in the north end of Mary Moore Searight Park. This project will include tree installation, and seeding of native grasses and wildflowers in the open areas. Many decaying ash junipers have already been removed and mulched by a forestry mower. Volunteers will be needed to transplant seedlings of tree species from the adjacent forest that are not available from local nurseries. A very exciting addition to the project will be the installation of a solar powered irrigation system to get the new trees established. Date: First Saturday of every month Time: 9am-1pm Location: 907 Slaughter Ln., 78748. Clean Lady Bird LakeJune 9th, 2012 It's beautiful outside and our first Lady Bird Lake cleanup of the summer is coming up soon! Join hundreds of volunteers as they have a rewarding morning searching high and low for every last bit of trash and getting to know other lake enthusiasts. There are several sites around the lake to choose from, whether you'd like to help from the shoreline or from your boat! Each cleanup will end with a prize for the most unusual object found during the cleanup. On-the-Water volunteers should be 16 or older and be comfortable around water. Volunteers MUST pre-register for this event, please use the registration link below. We'll discover fossils, caves and springs on a scavenger hunt along Barton creek, test water quality, get down underground into a wild cave, clean up trash while canoeing a creek, and dive into barton springs.
