We provide resources and education to engage
citizens in building more beautiful communities.
Love Lady Bird Lake but hate the Styrofoam washed up along its shoreline? Join us in an increased effort to put the finishing touches on this beautiful asset to our community. Clean Lady Bird Lake is a partnership made possible thanks to generous funding and assistance from REISamsung, and the City of Austin Watershed Protection Department.

Large-Scale Cleanups

Keep Austin Beautiful organizes large-scale cleanups every other month to help clean litter from the lake. Volunteers can choose to assist from the shoreline or from watercrafts. This is a great volunteer opportunity for groups and individuals alike and is family-friendly too! See photos of volunteers in action!

2014 cleanups are scheduled for the 2nd Saturday of every other month, except October: click on the below dates for more information and to sign up.

  • One-Time Cleanups: Anyone can do their part to keep Lady Bird Lake clean. Register a cleanup, and Keep Austin Beautiful will provide all of the cleanup supplies, arrange to have the full trash bags collected, and can help you find the perfect spot on the lake to cleanup.
  • Rubbish Report: Submit a report of where you see trash along the lake, so we can direct volunteers to clean up the area.
  • Adopt-a-Creek: Dozens of creeks have already been adopted throughout Austin, and cleanups along those creeks catch trash before it makes its way to the lake. Adopt your very own creek.
  • Rapid Rain Responders: A team of volunteers use their own boats to tackle trash that floods into the lake after rainstorms. If you'd like to join this dynamic team, fill out our volunteer application and enter Rapid Rain Responder. Email Ivey for more information.

While Lady Bird Lake tops many people’s list of places to take visitors, it also tops the list of places about which Keep Austin Beautiful receives trash complaint calls. Nine watersheds (Eanes, Barton, West Bouldin, East Bouldin, Blunn, Harpers Branch, Johnson, Shoal, and Waller) flow into the lake and after every storm an increase in trash on the lake’s surface is apparent as trash washes from the streets --> storm drains --> creeks --> lake. Over the years, Keep Austin Beautiful has regularly organized cleanups of the lake, and thousands of volunteers have pitched in to pick up trash.
