What is the Longhorn Recycling Roundup?

The University of Texas Longhorn Recycling Roundup is a nationally recognized program that collects and recycles plastic cups and aluminum cans at UT Austin home football games.  Last year they collected and recycled a new record -- 21,560 pounds of plastic and 4,160 pounds of aluminum – making this one of the largest recycling efforts ever undertaken by a university stadium of this size.

Each year KAB partners with the Longhorn Recycling Roundup by organizing the Good Sports Always Recycle Program, to recognize elementary, middle and high school recycling and environmental efforts. All schools in the Austin Area are invited to apply. 

How to Participate? (Apply in October 2010)
Submit an application describing your schools' recycling, conservation, and campus greening efforts. Don't forget to include pictures, fliers and other supplemental material that highlights your project (s). Applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges to select the winning schools, which win some pretty cool stuff.

ALL NEW Categories for Elementary, Middle and High Schools. This is your chance to shine in your division.

Winning Schools Receive:

• Tickets to the Texas vs. Kansas football game for three school representatives.   
• Tickets to a pre-game party at Longhorns Corporate Sponsor Club. 
• A commemorative plaque for your school.

• Your school representatives will go out ON THE FIELD for a special recognition ceremony! Thousands of fans cheering you on! How cool is that?! See  the photo below from last year’s program? This year...that could be you!

AND:

• $500 prize to be awarded to the top 5 Recycling Programs. 
• $250 prize for the 'Coca-Cola Recycle Rookie Award will be designated for schools with NEW recycling programs.
• All school applicants will be entered into a drawing to win $100.

How To APPLY

• Complete the Online Entry Form
• Write a description of your school's recycling program and environmental efforts
• Email the summary and any supplemental materials to monica@keepaustinbeautiful.org
• Submit summary with "[school name] Summary" in the title
• Include information regarding specific environmental efforts from entry form in the summary. The online entry form provides a quick reference only.
• Submit supplemental materials with "[school name]" Supplemental" in the title. If possible please submit photos inserted in word or pdf document.
• Apply in October 2010!
