NBG 2005 Cherrywood NACherrywood Neighborhood Association 2005 Neighborhood Grant Recipient The water fountain at Cherrywood Green has been completed! An initial grant of $1088 was received from KAB in Summer 2005 for the building of the fountain and planting of trees in the Concordia Triangle. The trees were planted in 2006, the fountain proved to be a much more complex project and was subject to many delays--however the end result is impressive and will benefit the neighborhood for years to come. Cherrywood Green is located at 34th Street and Cherrywood Road, was abandoned land until a few years ago, when neighborhood activists discovered it was deeded parkland that the city of Austin never developed. Volunteers have since created a viable public space that is used for dog walking, picnicking and community events (to include neighborhood garage sales, plant swaps, and fourth of July picnic). This park continues to be maintained solely through neighborhood volunteers. The Cherrywood neighborhood now has an original design water fountain that using an original design to include a dog watering bowl in its base. The fountain was designed to be ADA compliant, with a high and low side for wheelchair access. “Friends of Cherrywood Green” organization was formed to provide additional funding and support for the fountain and Cherrywood Green in general, and an artist group in the neighborhood volunteers constructed a solar powered light post and artistically painted picnic tables at the Green.
