EcoTexas

2008 Neighborhood Beautification Grant Recipient

EcoTexas was founded in 2007 by a high school student and is comprised exclusively of volunteers.  These dedicated volunteers are working to remove invasive plants species from Shoal Creek Greenbelt, Perry Park, Mayfield Park, Bright Leaf Preserve, Highland Park Elementary, and Blunn Creek Preserve. A notable portion of the invasive plants in each preserve are in especially sensitive areas, such as hillsides, hilltops, and riverbeds where they hold an increased potential to spread quickly due to a variety of catalysts including rainfall and flooding. EcoTexas aims to ensure that these sensitive areas are adequately cleared of invasive plants to at least slow the future potential for further spreading.

The KAB grant will allow the group to rent a chipper to chip brush piles at multiple sites, repair tools, and buy native grasses and seedlings to re-vegetate areas cleared on invasive plant species.
