Tip #2
Use a reusable shopping bag. Each reusable bag eliminates the need for 1,000 plastic bags or 500 paper bags over its lifetime

NBG 2008 Northfield Neighborhood AssociationNorthfield Neighborhood Association (NNA) 2008 Neighborhood Beautification Grant Recipient Although it’s a large neighborhood, the Northfield neighborhood (bounded by Koenig, Airport, 51st, and Lamar) contains no public green space other than a small triangle the neighborhood adopted several years ago, Bruning Green. The neighborhood association noticed an unused plot of land along Waller Creek and discovered that it’s under the city’s Watershed Protection department’s jurisdiction. The neighborhood and watershed protection have agreed that the neighborhood can takeover maintenance of the area and use it as a pocket park, as long as they abide by set guidelines. A landscape architect who lives in the neighborhood has created a master design and in the last year the Northfield Neighborhood Association (NNA) has removed trash, debris, and diseased trees from the lot and increased native plant diversity by adding 30 trees that are cared for by a large watering team from the neighborhood. NNA has secured a donation of locally quarried limestone and delivery, and KAB grant funds will be used to create a stone sitting wall, pathway, and patio to make this a gathering point for the community.
