Austin’s Tree of the Year Award 2010

Large and small tree nominations accepted!

What: Austin's Tree of the Year Award (ATYA) is about citizens, young, old and in-between nominating their favorite tree large shade tree, or small understory tree.

Why:  Trees do so many things that help Austin’s ecosystem function properly.  They clean our air and water, support wildlife, and help keep our city cooler.  It just makes sense to honor them for all the hard work they do.

Awards:  The large and small tree category winners will be honored at an event in October or early November.  The venue location will depend on accessibility of the winning trees.  The winning large tree and the winning small trees will each have a beautiful plaque installed at its base, and be featured on the Tree of the Year website.  Each of the winning tree nominators will receive a $50 gift card to a local nursery.

Where:  Trees must be accessible and/or visible from public property.  Go to the nominations page and submit your application online, or by mail.  www.cityofaustin.org/treeoftheyear/nomination.htm

Deadline:  Nominations are due June 30th, 2010.
