Build a Children’s Healing Garden

9/11/09

One of Keep Austin Beautiful’s 2009 KAB Grant Winners is going to hold their first workday on September 11th as part of the United Way Day of Caring!  Visit www.KeepAustinBeautiful.org/NBG to learn more about our grant program.

The Austin Child Guidance Center has been providing mental health services to Austin youth for over 50 years and to better serve our clients and reconnect children and adolescents with nature, they are building a Children’s Healing Garden. This project will transform the outdoor space into an attractive, welcoming, and functional garden for clients and families to enjoy. The garden will provide a space for relaxation and therapeutic healing for children and families that are often experiencing grief, trauma, abuse, neglect, school phobias, and parent-child relationship issues.  Come out and help them break ground in the Children’s Healing Garden on September 11!

The Fall Day of Caring will serve as a workday where volunteers can participate in the "groundbreaking" activities, such as prepping the soil, tilling, digging, plotting garden perimeters, and clearing debris.  To volunteer, please register at http://www.handsoncentraltexas.org/.  The day will start with a United way Kick-Off Event and then we’ll get to work!
