A Special West Bouldin Creek Greenbelt Clean-up & Invasive Species Removal

12/05/09

This very special clean up of the West Bouldin Creek Greenbelt is in accordance with the University of Texas, Lady Bird Wildflower Center Environmental Assessment Report wherein it was established that non-native species of trees and shrubs are negatively affecting the health of the greenbelt. In order to protect and conserve valuable native trees and shrubs such as elms, oaks, pecans and other valuable under story plants, the first step to remove invasive foliage removal is planned. Invasive plants crowd out the slower growing natives and rob them of valuable nutrients and water. In addition, stream bank stabilization and flood control will be aided with the removal of trash & debris along and in the creek channel. All volunteer work is being closely supervised by the City of Austin Parks & Recreation Department Forestry Division.
