2009 LAKE TRAVIS UNDERWATER (& SHORELINE) CLEANUP

WHAT IS THE UNDERWATER CLEANUP?

The Lake Travis Underwater Cleanup is the BIGGEST scuba diving and shoreline cleanup in Texas. The event invites several hundred certified scuba divers and  shoreline volunteers to help round-up trash from the bottom of Lake Travis and the 9 Travis County Parks surrounding the lake. The cleanup is followed by a volunteer thank-you party & is a great event for ALL ages! RAIN OR SHINE!
 

2009 RESULTS
 

On Sunday, September 13, 2009:

• 1,034 Volunteers (561 divers, 423 shoreline, 50 party)
   

• 4.5 TONS of Trash Collected

• $62,815 worth of Volunteer Hours

• 176 Tires and 55 Batteries

• Most Unique Objects included: Light Fixture (found on the shoreline) & 1951 Newspaper wrapped around an old iron waterline pipe (found underwater)

• Volunteers in Volente and Lakeway conducted major lake cleanups in their communities, removing an additional 20+ tons of trash.
